In a showdown between Sharks, Nature Coast came out the victor in a completely one sided game. NCT established control of the game from the kick off, and never took their foot off the gas. It was the 4th game ended via mercy rule this year for NCT, and the second one at the end of the first half. Without striker Mia DeRonda, who is out injured, NCT leaned on freshman sensation Kennedy Weissman. On the other end of the field, outside of a few back passes from defenders, sophomore Kirsten LaVallee didn’t have much to do in the NCT goal.
The scoring began in the 3rd minute after Weissman pounced on a loose ball after a sophomore Riana McAdam shot smacked off the GK’s gloves, 1-0 NCT. Two minutes later sophomore Alexandrea Florkowski latched on to a freshman MacKenzie Bell throw-in, and promptly hammered home a finish, 2-0 NCT. Weissman added another, 3 minutes later, after receiving a through ball over the line from Florkowski, Weissman tapping the ball past the rushing GK, 3-0 NCT. In the 10th minute, senior Marina Augugliaro would score the fourth goal. Augugliaro picked up a McAdam through pass as she shielded off a defender and scored around the GK, 4-0 NCT.
After a period of ten minutes where NCT just couldn’t find a finishing touch, they pick up a fifth goal right before the water break. McAdam played another perfect ball through the line to Weissman, who slipped a shot between the keeper’s legs to score her hat trick goal, 5-0 NCT. In the 26th minute Weissman would snag her forth goal. After picking up a loose ball in her own half, she proceeded to weave all the way down the center of the field to score a spectacular solo goal to the right of the keeper, 6-0 NCT. Bell would receive a 30th minute pass from junior Zoelle Vilardi and proceeded to hit a beautiful 18 yard curling right footed shot to the back post, 7-0 NCT. The game would inevitably be put away after Bell played through Weissman in the 36th minute. Weissman hit her fifth goal on the night past the rushing Anclote keeper to give NCT enough goals for the mercy rule, 8-0 NCT. The game would end four minutes later at halftime, NCT hitting the crossbar twice during that spell.
NCT improves to 10-2-2 on the season, after their second consecutive mercy rule. Their next game is an important match up as they will face their in-county rivals Springstead HS, the game will be played at 6:00 PM at NCT on Monday Jan. 14. Should the Sharks win, they will clinch the county title for the first time in 5 years.
