In a big change of pace for NCT from Monday night, the Sharks faced visiting Bell Creek Academy at the Shark Tank. The home team looked the superior team on paper and it didn’t take long for that look to go from the paper to the field. NCT started strong and took complete control of the game. The Sharks still looked a bit off the touch throughout the game, not to their normal standard, but it didn’t matter much to the scoreline.
It took merely 4 minutes for Nature Coast to find their first goal. After a few deflections saw the ball kindly fall to sophomore Kirsten LaVallee’s foot, she ripped a rocket of a shot in from 12 yards out, 1-0 NCT. Freshman Kennedy Weissman assisted the second goal of the game in the 10th minute after her pass deflected off of a defender’s boot into the back of the net, 2-0 NCT. Two minutes later, senior Marina Augugliaro tapped in a back post cross, sent in by Weissman, 3-0 NCT. Four minutes later Augugliaro added her second goal after ripping a shot over the GK’s head after receiving a Weissman pass, 4-0 NCT.
The next portion of the game was the Kennedy Weissman show. Weissman hit an 8 minute hat trick as she began to take over the game. Already on three assists, she finally picked up her first goal in the 23rd minute. Freshman Haley D’Ambrosio’s cross clanked off the GK’s gloves in the box and Weissman was there to tap in the loose ball, 5-0 NCT. Not even a minute later, D’Ambrosio linked up again with Weissman as she picked up a pass and dribbled around a defender one-on-one to fire pass the GK, 6-0 NCT. In the 31st minute she completed her hat trick. This time junior Zoelle Vilardi slipped a pass to Weissman. Weissman proceeded to dribble past 3 Panther defenders as she hammered in a shot from 15 yards out, 7-0 NCT. The half trickled out with no goals from there.
After halftime the Sharks looked eager to put the game away early. The majority of the chances seemed to come from the sharp striking boots of sophomore Monica Graham. Graham has yet to score a goal in her two year varsity career (sort of). Normally finding herself in the heart of the Shark defense, she was wildly playing striker in some sort of show of force…defending from the front. Her presence almost demanded the ball from her teammates as it seemed like all the Sharks could do was pass the ball to Graham. After instinctively clearing the ball out a few times for a goal kick, Graham knew it was finally time to score a goal. In the 47th minute she linked up smartly with sophomore Riana McAdam before she expertly finished beyond the GK, 8-0 NCT.
NCT picks up their 3rd mercy rule of the season as they advance to 9-2-2 on the year. Unbeaten in 6 straight games, the Sharks will take on Anclote HS in Holiday, FL on Friday at 6:30 PM.
